We started out late on Friday, but spirits were high and the van was completely loaded! Unfortunately, being late made us miss one of the stops that I really wanted to go to: The Kangaroo Farm in Arlington, WA. So, if you end up going there, please let me know what you think. I'm hoping we'll be able to hit it on the was BACK to Victoria, BC when we return home in October.
We traveled from Victoria, BC to Bellingham, WA for our first stop. Of course, no trip to the mainland of Canada is possible from the island without the use of BC Ferries (unless you use a bi-plane). Starting at Schwartz Bay and landing in Tsawwassen. It's always a pleasant trip, as long as you can deal with typical judgmental parents who care more about how they look than how their children are behaving. Check out what we said about BC Ferries here.
The boarder lines weren't that bad at all, but we also got there (The Peace Arch) around noon so traffic was kind of light.
First off, if you haven't visited Bellingham, WA, you should. Before being "Mama and Wife", I lived in Seattle. My roommate and I would frequent Bellingham for drinks and music. Mostly music because my roommate had a thing for a base player in a great rockabilly band. Plus, who doesn't want to "go to Electric Avenue"! So, when I discovered there was a museum about electricity and inventions right downtown AND across the street from a donut shop, I put it on our list. Check out Spark Museum of Electric Inventions and Rocket Donuts!

Thanks to Roadside America we find gems all over! Friday's was Paine Field Community Park. Which, by the way, was my kids favorite stop of the day. I was expecting to only find a flying saucer to take pics with, and it turned out to be a great playground!
After a stop at Trader Joe's for some "too yummy" snacks, we headed to our hotel for the night: The Quality Inn and Suites in Everett. I'm a "deal looker" so I searched all the normal sites one would search and ended up with the best deal at Choicehotels.com and right now they are doing a great promotion that should earn us lots of free gift cards!
It went pretty good as first days go. There are always adjustment times. But I can't wait to see what's all in store!
